CARMEN HAD RETURNED.

With a vengeance.

Seth gauged Mia’s expression, more than a little surprised that aloof and elusive Mia Quentin had propositioned to paint him naked. But it sounded just like the sort of sexy stunt Carmen, Seducer of Unsuspecting Pirates, would pull.

“I don’t know what kind of subject I’ll make.” He unfastened two more of her shirt buttons before she realized what he was doing and slapped his hands away.

The hell of it was, while he’d been slyly unbuttoning her blouse, she’d been twice as sly unfastening his belt.

He had to have been temporarily insane to have resisted this woman that night on his boat.

“You won’t be the subject,” she whispered, tugging his shirt up his chest until he gave in and pulled it over his head. “You’re going to be the canvas.”

His passion-fogged brain struggled to figure out what exactly that meant until she swiped her paintbrush in one broad stroke across his bare chest.

Bright blue paint remained as evidence of its passing.

“You’re painting me.” Understanding kicked in about the same moment as an all-new wave of lust.

Carmen’s green eyes roved his body with obvious satisfaction. In one hand, she held her paintbrush, still slowly dripping onto the heavy tarp below them. In the other hand, she held a small can of blue paint.

“Are you taking off those shorts, sailor, or are you thinking about going noble on me again tonight?”

Seth replayed that question once in his mind, but even after double-checking, he still came up with the same interpretation. In the male playbook, that was called permission to tackle.

Mia’s squeal of surprise didn’t deter him in the least. Nor did the blue paint that went flying all over both of them as he lowered one shoulder into her belly and snowplowed her—relatively gently—onto the tarp.

The only thing he cared about at the moment was taking this conversation horizontal.

“I don’t want to be in the painting,” she protested, laughing and wriggling underneath him.

“Too bad.” He wrestled the paintbrush out of her hand, then stroked the blue-coated bristles down her neck and into the hollow between her breasts. “You’re not the only one who can play tormentor here.”

Her eyes fluttered for a moment, her smile slipped as her jaw dropped and her back arched.

Fascinated, Seth swept aside her blouse and continued to brush downward over her golden skin until her abdomen was completely blue.

An ocean breeze blew through the high windows, tickling their damp skin with salty air. Night sounds of the small town beach community drifted in along with it. Shouts and laughter from far away beachgoers as they walked their dogs or lit the bonfires they weren’t supposed to have but always managed to ignite anyway.

An awareness of their surroundings—including every little nuance of Mia’s warm skin next to his—seeped into his consciousness.

Including the very hot center of her straddling one of his thighs.

He understood she wanted to draw things out, slow things down tonight. But there was only so much a man could bear when such strong…enticement rested this close to him.
